
Jammu: Tragedy struck the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday evening as a terror attack in Jammu’s Poonch district resulted in the death of one IAF personnel and left four others injured. The incident occurred around 6 pm when terrorists opened fire on two vehicles carrying IAF personnel near Shahsitar, in an area between Surankote’s Sanai Top and Mendhar’s Gursai area.
Military sources revealed that the IAF personnel came under attack while traveling in the region, prompting a swift response from security forces. The injured personnel were immediately evacuated to Udhampur for medical treatment via IAF choppers. Despite efforts to save him, one of the injured personnel tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The IAF, in a statement, confirmed the incident, stating, “In the gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. In the process, five IAF personnel received bullet injuries, and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior succumbed to his injuries later. Further operations are on by the local security forces.”
Following the attack, a search and cordon operation was launched, with special forces of the Army joining efforts alongside 37 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and other units in the vicinity.
