Technical Committee for Animal Husbandry & Dairying Statistics Convenes in Udaipur
Udaipur: The Animal Husbandry Commissioner of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Dr. Abhijit Mitra, inaugurated a two-day meeting of the Technical Committee of Direction (TCD) for the Improvement of Animal Husbandry & Dairying Statistics today in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The committee aims to address essential data gaps, recommend suitable measures, deliberate on statistical methodologies, and provide guidance for sample surveys related to Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
The Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying is entrusted with responsibilities concerning livestock production, disease prevention, stock improvement, and dairy development. It oversees matters related to the Delhi Milk Scheme (DMS) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The department plays a pivotal role in advising State Governments and Union Territories on policies and programs in the field of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development. Key focus areas include the development of infrastructure, health care provisions for livestock, and the enhancement of central livestock farms for superior germplasm distribution to states.
During the committee meeting, a comprehensive review of statistics collected by the States/UTs was conducted. The committee identified gaps and improvement needs, leading to crucial decisions, including the revision of the methodology for annual data collection.
The event witnessed the presence of key dignitaries, including Principal Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of Rajasthan, Shri Vikas Sitaram Bhale, Advisor (Statistics) of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, Shri Jagat Hazarika, Director of ICAR-IASRI and TCD Co-Chairman, Shri Rajendra Prasad, Director and TCD Member Secretary, Shri V. P. Singh, and other senior members from Union and State Governments. Representatives from NDRI, NDDB, and ICAR-IASRI also participated in the meeting.
