Goa: The team behind the biographical drama Swatantrya Veer Savarkar engaged with the media at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), following the film’s showcase as the opening feature of the Indian Panorama section. Actor Randeep Hooda, who not only portrayed the titular role but also directed the film, spoke about the profound responsibility he felt in bringing Savarkar’s story to the forefront. Drawing parallels between the challenges of making the film and the adversities faced by Savarkar during India’s freedom struggle, Hooda said, “I had to take it upon myself to bring the real story of our unsung hero into public discourse.”

Hooda emphasized Savarkar’s vision of a militarily strong India and his influence on the armed revolutionary movement for independence. “This film highlights another aspect of our armed struggle, showcasing how Savarkar inspired revolutionaries to take up arms for freedom,” he added.

Actress Anjali Hooda, who plays the role of Bhikaji Cama, described her experience as transformative. “This movie was an eye-opener for me. It deepened my understanding of Savarkar’s personal life and his sacrifices. I hope more films like this are made to shed light on our forgotten heroes,” she shared.

The press conference also featured actors Jay Patel, Mrinal Dutt, and Amit Sial, who reflected on the importance of historical narratives in Indian cinema. They shared anecdotes from the filming process and underscored the cultural significance of bringing such stories to a wider audience.
