Subudhipur Housing Project Unveiled as BDA Eyes Planned Growth of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A new housing project at Subudhipur was unveiled on Tuesday as the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) marked its 44th Foundation Day, with the proposed Ekamra Residency positioned as part of efforts to expand planned and sustainable housing in the capital city.

Housing and Urban Development Minister and BDA Chairman Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra launched the project brochure at a programme held at Jayadev Bhavan and stressed the need for coordinated planning to meet the growing requirements of Bhubaneswar.

Mahapatra said the development of the capital would be critical to Odisha’s growth and called for greater focus on housing, drainage, sewage management and preservation of green spaces.

“BDA does not merely build houses; it works according to the needs of the people,” he said, adding that the government was working towards transforming Bhubaneswar into a world-class city.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of Town Planning (T.P.) schemes in ensuring organised urban expansion. He said planned development could improve civic amenities, enhance land values and create greater benefits for residents.

Ekamra Residency

The 7.36-acre Subudhipur Ekamra Residency will comprise three B+G+12 residential towers with two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments.

The project has been planned with a range of residential and community facilities, including landscaped areas, swimming pool, gymnasium, community hall, children’s play area and jogging track.

The housing complex will also have an earthquake-resistant RCC structure, sewage treatment plant, water recharge system, power backup, CCTV surveillance and fire safety systems.

Ekamra MLA Babu Singh called for greater attention to housing needs of the urban poor and said BDA would have an important role in shaping the future growth of Bhubaneswar.

BDA Vice Chairman Chanchal Rana said the capital should be viewed as the “face and future of Odisha” and outlined the broad focus of the authority’s upcoming 20-year development plan.

According to Rana, the plan will integrate planned urbanisation with improved roads and drainage, affordable housing, parks, playgrounds and other social infrastructure.

He stressed that successful urban transformation would depend not only on planning but also on effective implementation, accountability and active participation of citizens.

The BDA Annual Report was released during the programme, with BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi presenting its key highlights.
