SVNIRTAR Celebrates 50 Years of Transforming Lives of Persons with Disabilities

Olatpur/Bhubaneswar: The Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) marked its golden jubilee today, celebrating 50 years of unwavering commitment to empowering persons with disabilities (PwDs) through education, rehabilitation, and advocacy. The milestone event, held at SVNIRTAR’s campus in Olatpur, Cuttack, highlighted the institution’s remarkable journey in shaping inclusive development.

The celebration was graced by Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja as the Chief Guest, with Additional Secretary of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) Department, Deepak Routray, as the Guest of Honour. Director of SVNIRTAR, Dr. Patitapaban Mohanty, along with Deputy Directors and senior officials, were also present at the occasion.

The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolizing SVNIRTAR’s mission of spreading knowledge, fostering inclusion, and empowering PwDs. Speaking at the function, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja lauded SVNIRTAR’s contributions, stating, “SVNIRTAR has not just been an institution but a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. The dedication, compassion, and expertise of its doctors and service providers have profoundly impacted countless lives.” He expressed hope that the institute would continue to grow, innovate, and set new standards in the field of rehabilitation.

The golden jubilee celebrations featured cultural performances by PwDs, students, and staff, showcasing their talents and resilience. The event also included the distribution of assistive aids and appliances to PwDs, along with a prize distribution ceremony recognizing winners of various competitions organized by SVNIRTAR.

As SVNIRTAR enters its next phase of growth, the institute reaffirmed its commitment to pioneering advancements in rehabilitation, fostering inclusion, and empowering individuals with disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
