Submission Deadline Extended till April 10 for Doc Film Bazaar at MIFF 2024

New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has announced an extension of the submission deadline for projects participating in the inaugural Doc Film Bazaar, which is set to run alongside the 18th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). Originally slated for March 31, 2024, the deadline has been pushed to April 10, 2024, to accommodate filmmakers, particularly those operating in geographically remote regions of the country.

Scheduled to take place from June 16th to 18th, 2024, in Mumbai, the Doc Film Bazaar seeks to establish itself as a pioneering platform aimed at promoting and nurturing documentary, short film, and animation content, while showcasing filmmaking talent across production and distribution domains.

The Doc Film Bazaar comprises several key segments, including the Doc Co-Production Market (Doc CPM), Doc Viewing Room (Doc VR), and Doc Work-In-Progress Lab (Doc WIP), inviting filmmakers to submit their projects for consideration.

The Doc Co-Production Market serves as an exclusive platform designed to facilitate artistic and financial collaboration with the global film community. It aims to foster partnerships between filmmakers and potential producers or co-producers worldwide, offering opportunities for collaboration, co-productions, and funding for documentary and animation film projects.

Filmmakers selected for the Doc Co-Production Market will have the chance to pitch their projects during an Open Pitch session and engage in one-to-one meetings with producers, distributors, and financiers. Meanwhile, the Doc Viewing Room provides a curated space for registered delegates to view a selection of documentary, short, and animation films, ideal for securing world sales, distribution partners, co-producers, and finishing funds.

The Doc Work-In-Progress Lab offers selected projects in the rough-cut stage mentorship, feedback, and opportunities to interact with industry professionals. Open exclusively to documentary and animation films over 30 minutes, this segment provides valuable insights and suggestions while facilitating collaboration opportunities.

Speaking on the initiative, Joint Secretary (Films) and MD of NFDC, Prithul Kumar emphasized the Doc Film Bazaar’s focus on providing access to international opportunities for compelling storytelling. He highlighted the platform’s role in enabling filmmakers to gain insights into market demands, distribution strategies, and audience preferences, while receiving feedback from industry experts.

Further details on the submission process are available on the MIFF website at www.miff.in. Aspiring filmmakers are encouraged to take advantage of this extended deadline to showcase their projects on a global stage.
