Sheyphali B Sharan Assumes Office as Principal Director General of PIB

New Delhi:  Sheyphali B. Sharan takes charge as the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). This comes in the wake of the retirement of Manish Desai, who served in the position until yesterday. Sharan, an esteemed officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Information Service, steps into her new role with a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the field.

With a career spanning over three decades, Sharan has held a variety of key positions, primarily focusing on media publicity work across various ministries. Noteworthy among her assignments are her roles as a Press Information Bureau officer for the Ministries of Finance, Health and Family Welfare, and Information and Broadcasting. She has also served as the Spokesperson for the Election Commission of India, showcasing her versatility and adeptness in communication.

Her contributions extend beyond her cadre roles, as she has also served on Central Staffing Scheme Deputations. This includes stints as Director in the Ministry of Health (Department of Traditional Systems of Medicine/AYUSH from 2002 to 2007) and the Ministry of Finance (Department of Economic Affairs from 2013 to 2017). Ms. Sharan has also held pivotal positions such as OSD (Information Policy) at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting from 2000 to 2002, and as Director Administration and Finance at LSTV, Lok Sabha Secretariat, from 2007 to 2008.
