Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Prime Minister Modi Meets President Nyusi of Mozambique

Gandhinagar: In a diplomatic stride aimed at fortifying bilateral relations, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi welcomed H.E. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique, on January 9, 2024, in Gandhinagar.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to supporting Mozambique’s developmental priorities. The leaders engaged in fruitful discussions, exploring avenues to enhance cooperation in various sectors such as defence, counter-terrorism, energy, health, trade and investment, agriculture, water security, mining, capacity building, and maritime collaboration. Prime Minister Modi proposed exploring opportunities to strengthen air connectivity between the two nations, fostering closer ties in business, culture, and people-to-people relations.

Expressing gratitude, President Nyusi thanked Prime Minister Modi for advocating the inclusion of the African Union (AU) in the G-20, showcasing a commitment to a more inclusive global dialogue. The leaders also deliberated on issues related to cooperation in multilateral forums, with a particular emphasis on the United Nations.

Prime Minister Modi commended President Nyusi’s active participation in the Voice of the Global South Summit in January and November 2023, underscoring the importance of shared perspectives in shaping global discourse.

President Nyusi extended his appreciation to India for its support in various development projects, capacity-building programs, and assistance in maritime security. Both leaders concurred on the significance of sustained high-level political engagement and pledged to remain in touch to propel the momentum of India-Mozambique relations forward.

The meeting signifies a mutual commitment to deepening ties, fostering collaboration on shared priorities, and reinforcing diplomatic bonds between India and Mozambique. The outcomes of the discussions are poised to contribute significantly to the continued growth of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
