Kanpur Dehat: Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Limited, a distinguished Mini Ratna, Category-I, and Schedule ‘A’ Central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful commercial operation of its 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh.
The Gujrai Solar Power Station, executed by SJVN through its renewable arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), has commenced operations at a cost of Rs. 281 crores. This accomplishment propels SJVN’s total installed power capacity to 2,277 MW, with ten operational power stations.
The solar project is anticipated to generate an annual revenue of approximately Rs. 32 crores. In its first year, the Gujrai Solar Power Station is expected to generate 107 million units, contributing to a cumulative energy generation of 2,477 million units over the next 25 years.
Geeta Kapur, Chairperson & Managing Director of SJVN, expressed the organization’s commitment to enhancing India’s non-fossil-fuel-based energy generation, aligning with the target of achieving Net Zero by 2070.
The project was secured by SGEL in November 2022 through a Tariff-based Competitive Bidding Process conducted by the Uttar Pradesh New & Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA). The Power Purchase Agreement for this grid-connected solar project has been formalized with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for a tenure of 25 years.
This successful commissioning of the Gujrai Solar Power Station is a testament to SJVN’s dedication to renewable energy initiatives, contributing to the broader vision of achieving an installed capacity of 25 GW by 2030 and 50 GW by 2040. SJVN continues to play a pivotal role in the nation’s sustainable energy landscape, driving progress towards a greener and cleaner future.
