Bhubaneswar: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a key administrative reshuffle. The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Saturday.
Das, who led the RBI for six years since December 2018, has extensive experience in governance, spanning four decades. He has held crucial positions in both the central and state governments, with expertise in finance, taxation, infrastructure, and economic policymaking. His appointment will remain in effect until the completion of the Prime Minister’s current term or until further orders.
The inclusion of Das in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) underscores the government’s strategy to strengthen its economic and financial decision-making. His tenure at the RBI was marked by decisive policy interventions, including measures to stabilize the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, digital banking reforms, and inflation management strategies.
