Sarbananda Sonowal Reviews Dibrugarh’s Vision 2045 Master Plan for Sustainable Development
Delhi: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, attended a review meeting on the Dibrugarh Development Authority’s (DDA) Final Master Plan for Dibrugarh – Vision 2045. The master plan, which envisions Dibrugarh’s development trajectory over the next two decades, addresses rapid urban expansion, environmental sustainability, and enhanced quality of life for residents.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sonowal highlighted Dibrugarh’s historical and cultural legacy, emphasizing the importance of sustainable growth. “Dibrugarh has a rich history that we must honor as we progress toward becoming a modern, self-sufficient, and sustainable urban hub,” he said. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Atmanirbhar Bharat by 2047, he continued, Dibrugarh has the potential to emerge as a key center of economic growth while preserving its natural environment.
The master plan projects that Dibrugarh’s area will expand to approximately 391 square kilometers, incorporating natural water bodies and rivers. Emphasizing the need to prevent artificial flooding, Sonowal stressed the importance of scientific planning for efficient water management and rapid flood control, calling for “meticulous planning to protect Dibrugarh’s environmental gifts.”
Sonowal also highlighted the integration of green initiatives, including Modi Government projects such as Waste to Wealth and Waste to Energy, to address pollution and ensure a healthier environment for future generations. “Our goal is a greener, healthier, and happier Dibrugarh,” he concluded.
The meeting saw the attendance of prominent leaders including Rameswar Teli, ex-Union Minister of State; Prasanta Phukan, MLA, Dibrugarh; Dr. Saikat Patra, Mayor of Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation; Ujjwal Phukan, Deputy Mayor; Tankeswar Sonowal, Chief Executive Member of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council; and District Commissioner Bikram Kairi.
