Sambalpur Gears Up for Grand Celebration: 1,11,111 Diyas to Illuminate Mahanadi Banks

Sambalpur: In anticipation of the ‘Pran Pratistha’ at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, Sambalpur in Odisha is gearing up for a spectacular celebration that involves lighting more than 1 lakh ‘Diyas’ (earthen lamps) on the banks of the river Mahanadi.

Several social organizations have collaboratively taken charge to ensure that the event becomes a memorable spectacle. Members of these organizations, along with volunteers and local residents, are actively participating in the ambitious goal of illuminating 1,11,111 Diyas on the banks of the Mahanadi.

To accomplish this, the organizers have procured earthen lamps from various locations in the city and engaged local potters from nearby villages. The chosen location for lighting the lamps has been meticulously prepared, with the lamps undergoing cleaning, washing, and drying in sunlight. Subsequently, the lamps will be filled with ghee and oil, complete with wicks, ready to be lit on this historic occasion, as explained by a member of one of the organizing bodies.

Adding a spiritual touch to the celebration, nine priests from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, have been invited to perform the Mahanadi Aarti during the event. Following the Aarti, sweets will be distributed among the attendees.

Notable organizations such as Marwadi Yuva Manch, Hanuman Temple Committee, Mahila Naba Chetana, Veer Bajrangi, Parasuram Bhawan, and Brahmana Mahila Samiti are actively participating in organizing and executing this grand celebration. The event promises to be a fusion of spirituality, community participation, and a visual spectacle along the scenic banks of the Mahanadi.
