Rural Development Department Mandates Odia for Official Functions

Bhubaneswar: The Rural Development Department has officially mandated the use of Odia for all departmental operations, as announced in a recent directive from Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh. This move underscores the department’s commitment to promoting the regional language and ensuring its prominence in official communications.

According to the new order, all office documents, correspondence, meeting statements, resolutions, directives, and departmental communications will be issued exclusively in Odia. This policy aims to facilitate better understanding and accessibility of official materials for the local community.

While cabinet memorandums will remain available in both Odia and English, the primary language for all other official activities will be Odia. This directive is intended to enhance the use of the regional language within the department and align with the broader goal of increasing its presence in government functions.

The directive impacts all departmental personnel, including officers, field officers, top engineers, and employees, reinforcing the use of Odia in daily operations and communications. This strategic shift is expected to foster a greater appreciation of Odia and support its continued use in public administration.
