Leh: Day 4 of the Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 delivered exhilarating action at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium, with record-breaking performances, unbeaten streaks, and dramatic comebacks. Organized in partnership with the UT Administration of Ladakh and the Ice Hockey Association of Ladakh, the league showcases the growing popularity and talent in ice hockey across the region.
The Sham Eagles kicked off their campaign in spectacular style, defeating Chiktan Queens 8-3 in the highest-scoring match of the league so far. Padma Desal stole the show, scoring an extraordinary six goals, including a hat-trick, to lead her team to victory. Rigzen Angmo and Chhunzin Chamzo also added to the Eagles’ tally. Despite a spirited effort from Chiktan Queens, led by Tsewang Yagdol’s two goals and Mepham Dolker’s strike, the Eagles proved too strong, setting a high benchmark for the tournament.
In the men’s category, Changthan Shans maintained their unbeaten record with a commanding 7-2 victory over Zangskar Chadar Tamers. Dorjan Namgyal led the scoring with two goals, supported by Tsewang Dorjay and Padma Namgyal, among others. Despite goals from Lobzang Tharpa and Richen Wangyal for the Tamers, the Shans’ cohesive team performance secured their third consecutive win.
The Purig Warriors handed Sham Wolves their first defeat of the season with an impressive 5-2 victory. Goals from Imran Ali, Nadeem Sarwar, Sarfaraz Hussain, Bashar Ali, and Mohammad Ali Baba showcased the Warriors’ attacking prowess. Urgain Chosjor’s double for the Wolves kept the game competitive, but the Warriors’ solid defense and clinical finishing sealed the win.
The day’s drama peaked with a 3-3 draw between Humas Warriors and Shakar Chiktan Royals. Waseem Bilal’s opener for the Warriors was overshadowed by three quick goals from the Royals, with Hamid Khan and Vilayat Ali (two goals) leading the charge. However, the Warriors mounted a dramatic comeback, with Issa Mohd reducing the deficit before Bilal’s last-minute equalizer ensured the game ended in a stalemate.
The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League Season 2 features 30 matches—23 in the men’s category and 7 in the women’s. The men’s tournament has two groups of five teams, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The women’s competition follows a similar format, culminating in the finals on January 12 (women) and January 13 (men).
