Bhubaneswar: As February unfolds, Odisha is already feeling the heat, with the mercury soaring to 35°C, signaling hotter days ahead. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates a further rise in temperatures, with warm air flowing into the state due to the El Nino effect.
Tuesday witnessed maximum temperatures of 35°C in Odisha, with the minimum temperature reaching 24°C. Surprisingly, 13 districts in the state recorded day temperatures above 33°C. The IMD forecasts an increase in temperatures by 3°C to 7°C in the upcoming days, contributing to the prevailing hot and dry weather. This shift in weather conditions is noteworthy, considering Odisha experienced one of its coldest winters this year.
The El Nino effect is playing a crucial role in elevating temperatures, creating an unusual warmth for the first week of February. The IMD suggests that the prevailing hot and dry weather is likely to persist without significant changes in the near future.
On a different note, the IMD indicates the possibility of light rain/thundershowers in various parts of Odisha from January 10 to 13. Interior Odisha is expected to receive more rainfall compared to coastal areas during this period.
As Odisha braces for a warmer spell, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to beat the rising temperatures in the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates from the IMD as they monitor and analyze the evolving weather patterns in the region.
