Replicas of Iconic Konark Wheels Installed at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: Four sandstone replicas of the iconic Konark wheels have been installed at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre and Amrit Udyan as part of an initiative to highlight India’s rich cultural heritage for visitors. These installations, inspired by the original wheels of the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, are intended to showcase the depth and history of Indian artistry and architecture.

The Konark Sun Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is celebrated as the pinnacle of Odishan temple architecture. Constructed in the form of a massive chariot carrying the Sun God, the temple is adorned with intricate stone-carved wheels that symbolize India’s enduring cultural legacy. These wheels, now replicated at Rashtrapati Bhavan, serve as both a tribute to this architectural marvel and an emblem of the nation’s heritage.
