Puri: The sacred ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ ritual was performed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Sunday, marking the official commencement of preparations for the annual Rath Yatra. The traditional ceremony, observed on the auspicious occasion of Sri Panchami, involved the ceremonial worship of Dhaura wood, which will be used for constructing the divine chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.
The ritual, held in the evening, saw the first piece of a 12-foot Dhaura log being worshipped, symbolizing the initiation of chariot construction. This age-old tradition signifies the beginning of the meticulous process that leads to the grand Rath Yatra festival, one of the most significant religious events in the country.
Recently, three trucks transported 101 pieces of sacred timber, including Ashan and Dhaura wood, from the forests of Nayagarh and Dasapalla to Puri. These woods will be crafted into the three magnificent chariots of the deities.
Meanwhile, the Ghosa Jatra rituals have also begun in Puri, adding to the spiritual fervor. The actual chariot construction will commence on Akshaya Tritiya, an important day in the Hindu calendar.
