Rare Planetary Alignment Draws Crowds to Pathani Samanta Planetarium in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Astronomy enthusiasts and the general public are flocking to the Pathani Samanta Planetarium to witness a rare celestial event featuring six planets—Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus—aligned in a straight line. This breathtaking cosmic spectacle has captured the imagination of many, especially students, who are eagerly exploring the wonders of space through telescopes set up at the planetarium.

The planetary alignment, visible in the evening sky, offers a stunning visual treat. While Mars, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn can be observed with the naked eye, Neptune and Uranus require binoculars or telescopes for viewing. The event has drawn significant attention, with the Department of Science and Technology ensuring smooth arrangements for public participation.

“Special arrangements have been made on the planetarium premises to facilitate viewing this cosmic parade. Four telescopes have been installed to provide a closer look at Neptune and Uranus. The viewing sessions are open daily from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, except on Mondays, and will continue until January 31,” said Urmiprabha Maharana, acting director in charge of the planetarium.

The event has sparked widespread excitement, with students and families gathering at the planetarium to witness this rare astronomical occurrence.
