Goa: The new Administrative & Training building at the Naval War College (NWC), Goa, named ‘Chola,’ was inaugurated by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh on March 5. Paying homage to the maritime empire of the Chola dynasty, the modern edifice symbolizes India’s maritime excellence and aspirations. In his address, Rajnath Singh commended the Navy for establishing a world-class training facility, aligning with India’s stature among maritime powers.
Rajnath Singh stressed the importance of re-balancing military resources to address maritime threats effectively. India’s role in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) has been re-imagined, and the country has emerged as the first responder and a preferred security partner, ensuring a rules-based maritime order in the IOR. The Navy’s readiness aids neighboring countries in protecting autonomy and sovereignty.
India’s commitment to strengthening economic and security cooperation with maritime neighbors aligns with the Security And Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR) vision. The Raksha Mantri praised the Navy for its anti-piracy and anti-trafficking operations, contributing to regional security.
The inauguration also witnessed the unveiling of two major piers at Naval Base, Karwar, capable of berthing aircraft carriers and hosting various vessels. These developments are part of the ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird, a significant naval infrastructure initiative. Project Seabird aims to enhance the capacity of the Indian Navy and contribute to the country’s strategic presence on the western coast.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar highlighted the role of higher military education in countering evolving security challenges. He expressed confidence that the new training facility at NWC will serve as a Gurukul for learning and sharing maritime perspectives.
The Raksha Mantri interacted with project personnel, released a commemorative postage stamp, and inspected the Guard of Honour.
