Private bus fares increased in Odisha amid rising fuel costs

Bhubaneswar: Commuters travelling by private buses in Odisha will now have to pay slightly higher fares as the state government has revised ticket prices across different categories of buses following the recent increase in fuel prices.

The revised fares came into effect immediately after the government issued an official notification on the hike.

Under the new rates, ordinary bus fare has been increased from 88 paise per kilometre to 90 paise per kilometre. The fare for express buses has been revised from 92 paise to 94 paise per kilometre.

Similarly, deluxe bus passengers will now pay Rs 1.31 per kilometre instead of Rs 1.27, while AC deluxe bus fare has been increased from Rs 1.55 to Rs 1.59 per kilometre.

The fare for super premium buses has also been revised upward by 6 paise, taking the new rate to Rs 2.47 per kilometre.

Officials said the decision was taken to help private bus operators cope with rising operational expenses caused by higher oil prices.

They added that the fare hike has been kept marginal in an effort to minimise the impact on daily passengers and long-distance travellers across the state.
