New Delhi: On February 3, 2024, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is set to dedicate to the nation the NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW), NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1×250 MW), and lay the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW) in a momentous event. The total investment for these projects stands at an impressive Rs 28,978 Crore.

Addressing the media at Bhubaneswar today, Shri Sudip Nag, Regional Executive Director (Eastern Region I & II), shed light on the upcoming developmental power projects that will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. These projects mark a significant step towards enhancing power generation, fostering economic growth, and promoting sustainability in the region.

NTPC Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station (2×800 MW): Situated in the Sundargarh district of Odisha, the Darlipali Super Thermal Power Station is a pit-head power station equipped with Supercritical Technology, ensuring high efficiency. The plant is supplying low-cost power to beneficiary states such as Odisha, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Sikkim.

NSPCL Rourkela PP-II Expansion Project (1×250 MW): This 250 MW project by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Ltd is established in Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to provide reliable power crucial for the economic growth of the steel plant.

NTPC Talcher Thermal Power Project, Stage-III (2×660 MW): NTPC is developing this project within the premises of the old Talcher Thermal Power Station in the Angul district of Odisha. With highly efficient Ultra Super Critical Technology-based units, the new plant has a capacity three times that of the old TTPS plant. A significant portion of the power generated will be dedicated to the state of Odisha, with other states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Assam also benefitting from low-cost power.

These projects, constructed with modern environmental features, including efficient electrostatic precipitator, flue gas desulphurization, biomass co-firing, and covered storage space for coal, aim to reduce specific coal consumption and CO2 emissions.

Aside from creating direct and indirect employment opportunities, these initiatives have contributed to the improvement of physical infrastructure, such as approach roads, drainage, transportation, and communication facilities. NTPC has undertaken various community development initiatives in the surrounding villages, focusing on education, drinking water, sanitation, health, women empowerment, rural sports, etc. Furthermore, NTPC has established a Medical College cum Hospital in Sundargarh, Odisha.

The press conference was attended by key figures, including Shri Diwakar Kaushik, CEO, NSPCL, Shri Gautam Deb, Executive Director, Talcher Thermal, and other prominent representatives from the projects. The inauguration ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion, highlighting India’s commitment to progress, sustainability, and community development in the energy sector.
