President Murmu Conferred Honorary Doctorate by Algeria’s Martyr Ihaddaden Abdelhafid University

Algiers: In a prestigious ceremony held at Sidi Abdellah, President of India Droupadi Murmu was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science by the Scientific and Technological Hub, Martyr Ihaddaden Abdelhafid University of Algeria. The degree was conferred in recognition of her efforts in advocating for science and education to benefit all social groups in India.

Upon receiving the honorary degree, President Murmu expressed her gratitude, stating that the honor was as much for India as it was for her personally. She thanked the university for bestowing this distinction upon her and emphasized the critical role of education in shaping both individual empowerment and national progress.

During her speech, President Murmu highlighted India’s commitment to education as a key driver for the nation’s development. She noted that the Government of India has implemented several reforms to build a more enlightened citizenry, with the National Education Policy 2020 being a cornerstone in transforming India’s education system. She emphasized that the policy aims to foster collaboration with international educational institutions, providing Indian students with opportunities to engage in global learning.

President Murmu also underscored India’s ability to offer high-quality education at a fraction of the cost compared to Western institutions. She extended an invitation to Algerian students and youth to benefit from India’s numerous scholarships and fellowships, encouraging academic exchanges between the two nations. She reiterated India’s commitment to fostering education opportunities for African students as part of its broader diplomatic engagement with the continent.

The President emphasized that while India and Algeria share strong historical ties, their relationship has yet to reach its full potential. She expressed optimism that the youth from both nations would be key in strengthening bilateral ties and fostering deeper people-to-people connections. President Murmu voiced her confidence that this generation would become the bridge for enhanced cooperation, particularly in education and cultural exchange.
