Raipur: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the silver jubilee function of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly in Raipur, commending the institution for upholding the highest standards of democratic traditions over the past 25 years.
Speaking on the occasion, the President lauded the Assembly for its commitment to parliamentary discipline. She highlighted its unique rule of automatic suspension for members entering the well during proceedings and noted with satisfaction that this provision has been so effectively observed that the use of the Marshall was never required. She described this as an exemplary display of parliamentary decorum, setting a benchmark not only for the rest of India but also for democratic institutions worldwide.
Addressing women legislators, President Murmu encouraged them to support and uplift other women in society. She emphasized that by promoting women excelling in diverse fields—be it education, administration, social service, entrepreneurship, science, arts, labor, or agriculture—women leaders can help highlight their achievements and contribute to their empowerment. She acknowledged the challenges women face in balancing household responsibilities with professional aspirations and stressed that collective support among women would strengthen society and foster greater sensitivity.
The President also spoke on Chhattisgarh’s vast potential for development, emphasizing the opportunities in industries such as cement, minerals, steel, aluminum, and power generation. She noted the state’s rich natural heritage, with its lush green forests, waterfalls, and abundant natural resources. She urged policymakers to prioritize environmental conservation while advancing economic development and ensuring that all sections of society benefit from modernization.
The silver jubilee celebration of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly marked an important milestone in the state’s democratic journey. President Murmu’s address reaffirmed the significance of disciplined governance, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development in shaping the future of Chhattisgarh.
