President Murmu Addresses Convocation at National Forensic Sciences University

Gandhinagar: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the convocation ceremony of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar today, emphasizing the crucial role of forensic sciences in strengthening the justice system.

In her address, President Murmu highlighted India’s commitment to a justice-based social system that integrates both heritage and development. She acknowledged the Ministry of Home Affairs for its recent initiatives in enhancing forensic science capabilities and infrastructure, reinforcing its role in the nation’s legal framework.

She emphasized that a robust justice system must be truly inclusive, urging graduating students to ensure fair and timely justice for all, especially for marginalized and disadvantaged communities. She encouraged them to actively contribute to good governance by leveraging forensic evidence in legal proceedings.

The President underscored significant legislative changes aimed at modernizing crime investigation. She noted that under the new criminal laws, forensic experts are now required to investigate crime scenes where the punishment exceeds seven years. The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita mandates the establishment of forensic facilities across all states in a time-bound manner, making forensic examinations mandatory in many cases. These reforms, she asserted, will create a rising demand for forensic professionals.

Addressing the impact of technological advancements, President Murmu pointed out that digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have enhanced forensic capabilities. However, she cautioned that criminals are also exploiting new technologies, making it imperative for law enforcement, prosecutors, and justice officials to stay ahead through continuous skill development and awareness.

She expressed confidence that the National Forensic Sciences University will play a pivotal role in developing a robust forensic system, improving conviction rates, and deterring criminal activities. She commended the institution’s contributions in shaping skilled forensic professionals who will strengthen the nation’s legal and investigative frameworks.
