
President Droupadi Murmu Commemorates 200th Janmotsav of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati at Tankara, Gujarat
Tankara: The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the 200th Janmotsav – Gyan Jyoti Parv Smaranotsav Samaroh on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati today at Tankara, Gujarat. The ceremony celebrated the profound impact of the influential reformer on Indian society.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu highlighted the immense contribution of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati to the nation. She acknowledged that the land of India has been blessed by the birth of brilliant personalities like Swami Dayanand Saraswati, who dedicated his life to the cause of social reform. The President emphasized that Swamiji’s immortal book, ‘Satyarth Prakash,’ played a pivotal role in propagating the truth and inspiring great personalities such as Lokmanya Tilak, Lala Hansraj, Swami Shraddhanand, and Lala Lajpat Rai.
President Murmu commended Swamiji for his initiatives in removing superstitions and evil practices prevalent in 19th-century Indian society. She noted that Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati led the way towards modernity and social justice, vehemently opposing child marriage and polygamy while advocating for widow remarriage. He was a strong proponent of women’s education and self-respect, leaving an indelible mark on the societal consciousness.
The President expressed her joy in acknowledging Arya Samaj’s invaluable contribution to women empowerment through the establishment of girls’ schools and higher educational institutions for girl students. She applauded the various events organized by Arya Samaj during the two years of Swamiji’s 200th birth anniversary commemoration, focusing on family and social harmony, natural agriculture, and de-addiction to contribute to building a healthier society.
Highlighting that Arya Samaj will mark its 150th year of establishment next year, President Murmu expressed confidence that the organization and its members would continue to work towards realizing Swamiji’s vision of creating a better world. The President concluded by affirming that the light of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati’s teachings has been guiding the nation since his time and will continue to illuminate the path forward.
