PM Narendra Modi Submits his resignation to President Murmu

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make history by taking the oath for a third term on Saturday, becoming the first leader since Jawaharlal Nehru to achieve this milestone. Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit his resignation and that of his cabinet of ministers. The President has requested Modi to continue in his role until the swearing-in ceremony.

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 240 seats in the recent Lok Sabha elections, 32 seats short of the 272-majority mark needed to form a government independently. The BJP will rely on the 53 seats won by members of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to secure a third term in office.

Despite falling short of a majority, Modi’s leadership remains strong. He retained his Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, defeating Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of less than 1.5 lakh votes.
