PM Modi Inaugurates Rs 12,100 Crore Development Projects in Bihar, Boosting Health, Infrastructure, and Economic Growth
Darbhanga: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a series of development projects totaling Rs 12,100 crore in Darbhanga, Bihar, marking a significant boost to the state’s health, infrastructure, and economic landscape. The projects span health, rail, road, petroleum, and natural gas sectors, embodying the government’s commitment to comprehensive growth.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasized that Bihar, along with the entire nation, is moving towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). He expressed that unlike past initiatives that often remained on paper, today’s projects are being implemented on the ground, fostering real change. Highlighting the importance of today’s projects, he stated, “Our generation is witnessing and contributing to a Viksit Bharat.”
The projects include major infrastructure developments, such as a new AIIMS in Darbhanga, aimed at transforming healthcare access in Bihar and benefiting surrounding areas, including Mithila, Kosi, Tirhut, West Bengal, and even neighboring Nepal. This facility, he said, will not only enhance healthcare access but also create new employment opportunities in the region.
Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure
Prime Minister Modi outlined the government’s holistic approach to health, focusing on disease prevention, proper diagnosis, affordable treatment, and modern medical infrastructure. He noted that Ayushman Bharat has been instrumental in easing the healthcare burden on families, with over 4 crore patients treated under the scheme to date, saving Indian families around Rs 1.25 lakh crore in healthcare costs. He also announced free treatment under Ayushman Bharat for senior citizens above 70 years, adding that beneficiaries will soon receive Ayushman Vaya Vandana Cards for easier access.
In addition to AIIMS Darbhanga, the Prime Minister shared plans to establish a cancer facility in Muzaffarpur and a new eye hospital in Bihar, with support from Kanchi Kamakoti Shri Shankarcharya ji, expanding specialized care in the region.
Boosting Infrastructure and Economic Growth
The projects also include a Rs 5,500 crore investment in expressways and a Rs 3,400 crore City Gas Distribution (CGD) network, which Prime Minister Modi said will support both economic growth and job creation. He credited Bihar’s development of airports and expressways to the government’s Udan scheme, which has brought a new airport to Darbhanga.
Further supporting local industries, Modi highlighted the One District One Product scheme, which is helping Makhana producers gain national recognition. The Makhana Research Center has now achieved national institution status, and Bihar’s Makhana has been awarded a GI tag, enhancing its marketability.
Commitment to Heritage and Culture
Prime Minister Modi underscored his government’s commitment to preserving India’s heritage while promoting development. He celebrated Bihar’s historical significance and noted the ongoing efforts to revitalize Nalanda University. He also acknowledged the inclusion of Maithili as a recognized language in the Constitution’s 8th Schedule, a nod to the state’s cultural heritage.
Tourism Expansion and Tribute to Local Legacy
Modi announced that Darbhanga is now part of the Ramayana Circuit, enhancing its tourism appeal. He highlighted the benefits of the Amrit Bharat train on the Darbhanga-Sitamarhi-Ayodhya route for pilgrims and tourists.
Paying homage to Kameshwar Singh, Maharaja of Darbhanga, he honored his legacy of social work and contributions to the region. The event concluded with the Prime Minister’s affirmation of the government’s efforts to bring Bihar’s people the maximum benefits of these developments.
