PM Modi Inaugurates Advantage Assam 2.0, Showcases Assam’s Role in India’s Growth Story

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati today, calling it a significant step toward integrating Assam’s immense potential with global progress. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that Eastern and Northeast India are poised to play a crucial role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. He congratulated the Assam government for organizing the grand summit and reiterated his decade-old vision that “A for Assam” would soon be the norm.

The Prime Minister highlighted the world’s growing confidence in India’s economic trajectory, underlining that despite global uncertainties, India remains a beacon of rapid growth. He pointed out that India’s skilled workforce, expanding neo-middle class, and robust policy framework are attracting global investment. Referring to India’s strengthened trade partnerships and connectivity, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, he asserted that these efforts are creating new opportunities for regions like Assam.

Drawing attention to Assam’s remarkable economic growth, Modi noted that since the first Advantage Assam Summit in 2018, the state’s economy has more than doubled from ₹2.75 lakh crore to nearly ₹6 lakh crore. He credited this transformation to the double-engine government at the Center and in the state, which has focused on infrastructure, education, and industry-friendly policies. He highlighted the rapid development in Assam’s connectivity sector, including four new bridges over the Brahmaputra in the last decade, a fourfold increase in the railway budget, and modernization of over 60 railway stations. He also mentioned the expansion of air routes, which has significantly boosted the local economy and employment opportunities.

Prime Minister Modi stressed that infrastructure improvements have been accompanied by unprecedented advancements in law and order. The signing of peace accords and the resolution of border disputes have contributed to stability, making Assam an attractive destination for investors. He noted that Assam aims to become a $150 billion economy by 2030 and assured that the Central government will fully support this ambition.

Discussing industrial growth, Modi introduced the North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme, ‘Unnati,’ which will drive investment, industry, and tourism across the region. He urged business leaders to take full advantage of Assam’s strategic location, rich natural resources, and globally renowned products like Assam tea. He emphasized India’s focus on strengthening manufacturing under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, with Assam emerging as a key player in pharmaceuticals, electronics, automobiles, and green energy.

Highlighting Assam’s growing role in global trade, he pointed out that the state contributes over 50% of India’s onshore natural gas production and has seen rapid expansion in its refining and petrochemical sectors. He also mentioned the Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test facility in Jagiroad as a landmark step in establishing Assam as a major technology hub.

Prime Minister Modi underscored India’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental responsibility, stating that the country aims to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. He emphasized Assam’s potential in this sector and urged industries to capitalize on government incentives for green energy.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his belief that the Northeast and Eastern India will be central to India’s economic success by 2047. He invited investors to partner in Assam’s growth story and assured them of full government support in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat.
