PM Modi Expresses Support for Vinesh Phogat After Olympic Disqualification

New Delhi: The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed the nation’s deep sorrow following the disqualification of Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat from the women’s 50kg event at the Paris Olympics. The disqualification came just before her final bout due to a minor weight discrepancy.

In a heartfelt post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi conveyed his support for the wrestler, stating:

“Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India’s pride and an inspiration for each and every Indian.

Today’s setback hurts. I wish words could express the sense of despair that I am experiencing.

At the same time, I know that you epitomise resilience. It has always been your nature to take challenges head on.

Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you.”

Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification has been a major blow to Indian wrestling, as she was a strong contender for the gold medal. Her journey at the Paris Olympics had been marked by impressive victories, including a significant win over Japan’s four-time World Champion Yui Susaki in the opening round. Phogat also defeated Ukraine’s Oksana Vasylivna Livach to advance to the semifinals, where she triumphed over Cuba’s Yusneylys Guzman, securing her place in the final.
