Pat Cummins Clinches First Hat-Trick of T20 World Cup 2024

North Sound: In a thrilling display of pace bowling mastery, Australian cricketer Pat Cummins etched his name in T20 World Cup history by securing the first hat-trick of the ongoing tournament during Australia’s Super Eights clash against Bangladesh at North Sound.

The 31-year-old speedster achieved this milestone by dismissing Mahmuddulla and Mahedi Hasan on consecutive deliveries in the 18th over. Cummins then returned with lethal precision to clean bowl Towid Hridoy off the first ball of the final over, thus completing a sensational hat-trick. His remarkable spell concluded with figures of 3 wickets for 29 runs.

Cummins now joins the elite league of cricketers who have claimed a hat-trick in T20 World Cups, alongside compatriot Brett Lee. Lee, the first Australian to achieve this feat, had also accomplished his hat-trick against Bangladesh in the 2007 edition of the tournament.

The Australian pace ace’s achievement marks the seventh hat-trick in T20I World Cups, following the recent feats by Curtis Campher of Ireland, Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka, and Kagiso Rabada of South Africa in the 2021 edition. Additionally, UAE’s Karthik Meiyappan and Joshua Little of Ireland also feature in this exclusive list from the 2022 tournament.

Pat Cummins’ exceptional performance not only bolstered Australia’s campaign but also underscored his prowess as a premier fast bowler in international cricket. His ability to strike at crucial moments exemplifies his importance in the team’s quest for T20 World Cup glory.
