Paris Paralympics 2024: Dharambir Shatters Asian Record for Gold, Pranav Secures Silver in F51 Club Throw

Paris:  India made history at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games as Dharambir and Pranav Soorma secured a historic one-two finish in the men’s F51 club throw event, marking the first time India has won a medal in this event at the Paralympics.

Dharambir clinched the gold medal with a spectacular throw of 34.92 meters, setting a new Asian record. His triumph was especially remarkable, as he endured four consecutive foul throws before coming back strong on his fifth attempt to secure the victory.

Close on his heels, Pranav Soorma took the silver medal with an impressive throw of 34.59 meters, ensuring a double podium finish for India in the event. This extraordinary achievement highlights India’s growing strength in para-athletics on the global stage.

Amit Kumar, the third Indian competing in the final, finished in 10th place with a best throw of 23.96 meters.

This historic result marks a proud moment for Indian para-sports, as Dharambir and Pranav’s performances not only brought home medals but also set a new benchmark in the F51 club throw event, further showcasing India’s potential in para-athletics.
