Paramesh Sivamani Takes Charge as 26th Director General of Indian Coast Guard

New Delhi: Paramesh Sivamani has officially taken over as the 26th Director General (DG) of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), marking a new chapter in his illustrious career, which spans over three and a half decades. A seasoned officer with expertise in Navigation & Direction, DG Sivamani has held key positions both at sea and ashore, contributing significantly to India’s maritime security.

Throughout his career, DG Sivamani has commanded various major vessels of the ICG, including the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Samar’ and the Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Vishwast’. His leadership also extended to crucial regional commands, including Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), and as Coast Guard Commander Eastern Seaboard. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.

In September 2022, DG Sivamani was elevated to the rank of Additional Director General and stationed at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi. In August 2024, he was given additional charge as Director General of the Indian Coast Guard.

During his tenure, DG Sivamani has overseen significant operations and exercises, including drug and gold seizures worth crores, rescues during severe cyclonic storms, joint exercises with foreign Coast Guards, anti-poaching missions, and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters. His leadership has also strengthened coastal security through various exercises and initiatives.

In recognition of his exceptional service, DG Sivamani has been honored with several prestigious awards, including the Tatrakshak Medal in 2014, the President Tatrakshak Medal in 2019, the DG Coast Guard Commendation in 2012, and the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (East) Commendation in 2009.
