Paralakhemundi Railway Station Undergoes Major ₹12 Crore Upgrade as Part of Amrit Stations Initiative

Paralakhemundi: The historic Paralakhemundi Railway Station is undergoing significant development, with a total investment of ₹12 crore under the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Stations initiative. This transformation is set to enhance connectivity and improve passenger amenities in this culturally rich region of Odisha, benefiting both locals and travelers alike.

Strategically located near the Andhra Pradesh border, with the Mahendra Tanaya River separating it from Pathapatnam, Paralakhemundi serves as a vital transportation hub. The station connects to key areas within Odisha and Andhra Pradesh via State Highway 4 and National Highway 326A, with a 90 km broad gauge line from Gunpur to Naupada, part of the East Coast Railway network, ensuring seamless regional connectivity.

The development plan for the Paralakhemundi Railway Station includes:

  • Construction of a new station building (Ground Floor) covering 1,375 sqm, with a 72 sqm commercial area.
  • A 12-meter wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to improve access between platforms 1 and 2.
  • Upgrades to the station’s circulating area, spanning 14,326.9 sqm.
  • A dedicated parking area covering 2,711.9 sqm.
  • Raising the platforms to high-level for easier accessibility.
  • Installation of platform shelters totaling eight bays (six on Platform 1 and two on Platform 2).
  • New facilities including a premium lounge (64 sqm), First Class Waiting Hall (36 sqm), and Second Class Waiting Hall (48 sqm).
  • Construction of a premium toilet block (104 sqm) for improved passenger comfort.

The project has achieved 80% physical progress, and once completed, it will significantly enhance the station’s infrastructure and services. This development reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to modernizing key stations across the country, fostering improved transportation and better connectivity for the local community and the region.

The upgraded Paralakhemundi station will not only boost regional transport but also contribute to the socio-economic growth of the area by facilitating smoother travel and trade links between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
