Bhubaneswar: Taking a step further to enhance the skills of potential students in the field of sports, the Sports and Youth Services Department had launched a sport talent search on December 29.
They invited students in the age group of 8-18 years to register at the department website, in the choice of 30 disciplines listed. Coaches and Physical Education Teachers (PETs) were also invited to register and support the government in identifying and mentoring the sports talent.
As of now over 2000 students have and 900 PETs have registered themselves at the department website.
Speaking about the initiative, Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera said, “We have invited registration from students in the age group of 8-18 years to enroll on the Department website, in the choice of 30 disciplines listed. We would ensure that post trials, each kid in the defined age group is given the opportunity and platform to achieve his dreams to excel in sports. For this Physical Education Teachers (PETs) have been encouraged to register and complement the Sports department’s initiative to identify and nurture the hidden sports talents of the State.”
The sections of the students will be based on the trials to be conducted on phases.
The selected students will be able to enroll in the sports hostel or join the coaching programs to be conducted by the department without enrolling in the sports hostel.
“With this initiative we are aiming to reach 10,000 potential talents. District administrations and DSOs will be playing a key role in this search and collectively we should be able to reach out to a large and wide universe of budding talents. We are also working with the Department of School and Mass Education” he added.
