Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s traditional handloom and handicraft products are set to reach a wider national market with the launch of the state’s first-ever ORMAS Pop-up Store in New Delhi, offering weavers, artisans and rural producer groups an opportunity to directly connect with consumers in the national capital.
Set up by the Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS) under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department, the month-long store opened at DLF Avenue, Saket, on August 11 and will remain operational until September 10, 2026.
The store was inaugurated on Monday evening by Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik. Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the department Girish S.N., IAS, ORMAS CEO Dr Monica Priyadarshini, senior officials and other guests attended the inaugural programme.
Products From 14 Districts on Display
The pop-up store brings together more than 30 varieties of handloom and handicraft products from 14 districts of Odisha, providing customers in Delhi with an opportunity to explore and purchase products representing the state’s diverse weaving and craft traditions.
The handloom collection includes Sambalpuri Ikat and Silk sarees, Kotpad sarees, Pattachitra sarees, Habaspuri and Habaspuri Silk sarees, Tussar and Tussar Silk sarees and Khandua Pata sarees.
Traditional craft products, including Sambalpuri jewellery and Dhokra jewellery, are also available at the store, reflecting the distinctive artistic traditions of different parts of Odisha.
Direct Market Link for Rural Producers
The initiative is aimed at creating a direct link between Odisha’s weavers, artisans, Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) and consumers in Delhi.
By taking the products directly to a major urban market, ORMAS seeks to expand the market reach of rural producers, improve visibility of Odisha’s traditional crafts and create new opportunities for artisans and weavers to grow their enterprises.
The Delhi outlet also provides an opportunity to promote Odisha’s handloom and handicraft products beyond their traditional markets and introduce them to a wider consumer base.
Promoting Odisha’s Craft Heritage
The establishment of the pop-up store marks a new step in ORMAS’ efforts to use market-oriented initiatives to strengthen rural livelihoods. The initiative combines promotion of Odisha’s cultural heritage with efforts to create sustainable income opportunities for communities engaged in traditional crafts.
With a dedicated retail platform in the national capital, the state aims to showcase the diversity of its handloom and handicraft sector while creating stronger market linkages for rural producers.
The month-long exhibition-cum-sale is expected to provide Odisha’s weavers and artisans with greater exposure in one of the country’s major consumer markets and further strengthen the national presence of the state’s traditional craftsmanship.
