Odisha’s Deputy CM Pravati Parida Meets India’s High Commissioner in UK to Promote Tourism

Bhubaneswar: A high-level delegation from Odisha, led by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, is currently on a mission in the United Kingdom to enhance the state’s tourism sector. The visit aims to promote Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and unique attractions to potential tourists from the UK and Europe.

During her visit, Deputy Chief Minister Parida met with India’s High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswamy, to explore avenues for promoting Odisha’s tourism potential. The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Tourism Department Balwant Singh, Director of Tourism Samarth Verma, and Additional Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office Anupam Saha.

Discussions at the meeting centered around showcasing Odisha’s diverse offerings, which include its historic temples, expansive beaches, dense forests, sanctuaries, and rich handicrafts. High Commissioner Doraiswamy emphasized the importance of a people-centered approach to tourism, advocating for partnerships with tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) to enhance accessibility to Odisha as a travel destination.

Highlighting the state’s proactive tourism policy, Deputy Chief Minister Parida noted that Odisha has successfully attracted numerous investors interested in the tourism sector. She underscored the significance of promoting eco-tourism and heritage tourism as vital components of the state’s tourism strategy.

As part of her itinerary, Deputy Chief Minister Parida inaugurated a new restaurant named ‘Chilika’ in Kent, UK, which celebrates Odisha’s culture. The restaurant, named after Asia’s largest brackish water lake, was opened in the presence of the Mayor of Bexley, local councillors, and executives from the Odisha Society of the UK, marking a cultural connection between the two regions.

Additionally, Odisha Tourism is participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) London 2024, a significant international event designed to showcase the state’s unique culture and tourism offerings to a global audience. This participation is expected to open up substantial opportunities for cultural exchange and investment between Odisha and the United Kingdom.

The delegation’s efforts aim to position Odisha as a prominent tourist destination, leveraging its rich cultural tapestry and natural beauty to attract more visitors and investors to the state.
