Bhubaneswar: Twelve Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC) members from nine districts in Odisha have been invited as special guests to attend the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.
The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti extended the invitation to the VWSC members from Cuttack, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Ganjam, and Balasore. These individuals will witness the grand Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path on January 26.
The recognition comes in acknowledgment of their exemplary contributions under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), the flagship program of the Central Government aimed at providing safe and adequate drinking water to every rural household through tap connections by 2024. The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department highlighted their efforts in a social media post, commending their role in ensuring sustainable water management and sanitation.
In addition, two residents from Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district, Kiran Dagara of Ward No. 10 and Ramjit Tudu of Govindpur village under Badampahar police limits, have been specially invited to attend the prestigious Republic Day reception at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
