Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance Department has set a new benchmark in its anti-corruption drive by investigating a record 125 cases between April 1 and December 31, 2025, the highest number of cases ordered for investigation in the last 20 years. The milestone was highlighted during a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
With these additions, the total number of vigilance cases cracked in 2025 has risen to 488, reflecting a sharp intensification of enforcement and surveillance against corruption across the State.
The review revealed that disproportionate assets (DA) cases dominated the investigations, with 173 cases, the highest among all categories, underscoring the department’s focus on identifying wealth amassed beyond known sources of income.
During the year, the Vigilance Department carried out 487 raids, froze and closed 1,199 bank accounts linked to corrupt practices, and seized extensive movable and immovable assets. The seizures included 153 buildings, 417 plots of land, 12 farmhouses, and 18.3 kg of gold, along with ₹36.69 crore in bank deposits and ₹8.8 crore in cash.
The department’s performance has also earned national recognition, with the State Vigilance Academy being awarded ISO 9001:2015 certification for improved infrastructure and high-quality training standards, strengthening institutional capacity in anti-corruption enforcement.
Chairing the review, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reiterated the government’s resolve to eradicate corruption from public life and urged the Vigilance Department to sustain its aggressive campaign. Issues related to capacity building, recruitment and filling of vacant posts were also discussed, with the Chief Minister assuring that decisions on strengthening manpower and resources would be taken soon.
