Odisha Unveils ₹1,000-Crore Stadium Plan in Bhubaneswar to Boost Sports Infrastructure

Bhubaneswar: Showcasing its ambition to cement its place as a national sporting powerhouse, Odisha will soon build a world-class stadium in Bhubaneswar at a cost of ₹1,000 crore. The project forms part of a ₹4,124 crore plan to upgrade sports infrastructure in 14 blocks across the state over the next four years.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze 2025 event at Kalinga Stadium. Calling it a “proud day for Odisha,” he said the state’s success in hosting major events, including two Hockey World Cups, reflects its commitment to developing top-tier facilities for athletes.

The Continental Tour Bronze, organised by the Athletics Federation of India and the Sports & Youth Services Department, saw participation from young athletes representing over 15 countries, adding an international flair to the occasion.

Under the wider infrastructure plan, new stadiums will be built in targeted districts to nurture local talent and promote excellence in athletics. CM Majhi expressed confidence that hosting the Bronze event would pave the way for Odisha to secure the prestigious Continental Tour Gold, further boosting its global sports reputation.
