PM Modi Inaugurates Bengaluru Metro Yellow Line, Lays Foundation for Phase-3; Flags Off Three Vande Bharat Trains

Bengaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro, built at a cost of around ₹7,160 crore, and laid the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the project worth over ₹15,610 crore. He also flagged off three new Vande Bharat Express trains from KSR Railway Station, connecting Bengaluru to Belagavi, Nagpur to Pune, and Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Amritsar.

Addressing a gathering, the Prime Minister lauded Karnataka’s cultural richness and technological leadership, calling Bengaluru a “symbol of New India’s rise.” He said the new Yellow Line will significantly cut travel time between Basavanagudi and Electronic City, improving ease of living for lakhs. The upcoming Orange Line under Phase-3 is expected to, along with the Yellow Line, serve 25 lakh passengers daily.

Modi also praised the use of CSR funding for metro station development by companies like Infosys Foundation and Biocon, terming it a model for public infrastructure. He highlighted India’s rapid growth in infrastructure, exports, and technology, crediting reforms and the Make in India initiative.
