Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in completion of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), reflecting the state government’s accelerated push towards affordable urban housing.
Officials said Odisha has consistently retained the number one position in India in house completion performance from March 2025 to March 2026 under the flagship housing scheme launched in September 2024.
The achievement comes under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, with the state government focusing on speedy implementation of the “Housing for All” initiative for urban poor families.
According to official figures, a total of 24,625 houses have been sanctioned in Odisha under PMAY-U 2.0. Of these, 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged to facilitate monitoring and implementation.
Construction activity has gained momentum across urban areas, with foundation work beginning for 3,134 houses. As of May 5, 2026, around 2,008 houses have already been completed, while the remaining units are at different stages of construction.
Officials attributed the state’s performance to coordinated efforts between the Housing and Urban Development Department and Urban Local Bodies, along with close monitoring at the grassroots level.
Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed officials to further accelerate construction activities and complete the remaining targets within the stipulated timeline.
He stressed the importance of maintaining quality standards, ensuring timely execution, and delivering housing benefits quickly to eligible beneficiaries across the state.
The state government said Odisha’s strong performance under PMAY-U 2.0 reflects its broader focus on inclusive urban development, improved living standards, and ensuring dignified housing for economically weaker sections in urban areas.
