Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is preparing to unveil the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its flagship women’s welfare initiative, Subhadra Yojana, on August 15. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida made the announcement on Saturday, outlining that the SOP will provide crucial details about the scheme, which aims to support women in establishing small enterprises such as cottage industries and makeshift shops.
Named after Devi Subhadra, the Subhadra Yojana is designed to empower women through financial assistance. Under the scheme, eligible women will receive a cash voucher of Rs 50,000. To qualify, women must have an Aadhaar card, while those from higher income brackets and those paying income tax will not be eligible. The release of the SOP will clarify the specific modalities and criteria for eligibility.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has previously announced that the scheme will be rolled out statewide on September 17. This initiative will be supported by a substantial allocation of Rs 10,000 crore from the annual budget, with the possibility of additional funding if needed. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the scheme, with 5 lakh women set to receive vouchers on the launch day.
CM Majhi’s administration is committed to implementing the Subhadra Yojana as part of its 100-day agenda, which also includes providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 31,000 to farmers. The scheme’s launch within this timeframe aligns with the BJP’s 2024 election manifesto promises, underscoring the government’s dedication to fulfilling its electoral pledges.
