Odisha to Deepen Alumni Engagement in Schools: First Governing Body Meeting of Panchasakha Shiksha Setu Held

Bhubaneswar: Alumni can play a transformative role in shaping the future of education by contributing their time, experience, and resources to their former schools. Recognizing this potential, the first Governing Body Meeting of Panchasakha Shiksha Setu (PSS) was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja to chart new ways of expanding alumni engagement in school development across Odisha.

Addressing the meeting, Ahuja underscored that alumni participation is invaluable in strengthening the education ecosystem. Their involvement not only helps upgrade school infrastructure but also enhances the learning environment for students. He announced that new initiatives and structured programs would soon be launched to ensure that alumni networks become a stronger part of school development activities.

The Governing Body reviewed the progress made since the first and second Executive Committee meetings, during which 1,569 projects worth ₹26 crore were approved across 25 districts. These initiatives combined alumni contributions with matching government support, reflecting a growing partnership between citizens and the state in advancing educational outcomes.

In a significant move, the Governing Body approved the introduction of financial literacy training for students of Classes VI to X in PM SHRI schools, under a joint initiative of the School and Mass Education Department and Panchasakha Shiksha Setu. To facilitate this, an MoU with the National Centre for Financial Education (NCFE) will soon be signed. Ahuja commended this step as a forward-looking measure that will empower students with essential life skills.

The meeting also sanctioned the comprehensive development of 51 heritage schools under the Aitihya Vidyalaya initiative, which seeks to preserve the legacy and cultural value of historic educational institutions. Approval was also granted for the construction of mid-day meal halls in selected schools through CSR partnerships, ensuring better facilities for students.

The Governing Body further approved the annual budget of the organization and finalized several new program plans and allocations for the coming year.

Commissioner-cum-Secretary, School and Mass Education Department, Shalini Pandit, who serves as Vice-Chairperson of Panchasakha Shiksha Setu, highlighted the importance of community ownership in education. She noted that alumni-led initiatives foster belonging, strengthen public education, and inspire students to achieve excellence.

With these renewed efforts, Panchasakha Shiksha Setu aims to deepen alumni participation, promote inclusive development, and create a sustainable model of community-driven educational transformation across Odisha.
