Odisha Targets 11 GW Renewable Energy Capacity by 2030, Invites Industry to Invest in Clean Energy Ecosystem

Bhubaneswar: Positioning itself as the country’s emerging “Energy Growth Engine,” Odisha has set an ambitious target of adding nearly 11 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 while seeking to attract investments in advanced power infrastructure and electrical equipment manufacturing.

The roadmap was outlined by Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo while addressing a conference organised by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA). Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain also participated in the event, highlighting the state’s industrial growth prospects.

Addressing industry leaders, Singh Deo said Odisha is a power-surplus state and is playing a key role in India’s clean energy transition. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Purvodaya vision for the development of eastern India, he called for extending industrial incentives to the energy sector to accelerate the creation of a future-ready electricity network.

He said the state is focusing on developing smart grid technology, digital substations and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled asset management systems to build a resilient, secure and efficient power transmission network.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Odisha’s investment pipeline of nearly ₹10 lakh crore is expected to generate sustained demand for transformers, transmission equipment, smart grid technologies and other advanced electrical components. He added that the state’s strategic location in eastern India, coupled with its port infrastructure, makes it an attractive manufacturing hub for electrical equipment producers catering to domestic and export markets.

Inviting investors to partner in Odisha’s energy transformation, Singh Deo assured industry stakeholders of a stable policy environment, transparent governance and proactive support from the Energy and Industries departments.

“Manufacture in Odisha, Innovate in Odisha and Grow with Odisha,” he said, urging global manufacturers, technology providers and investors to contribute to building a modern, cyber-secure energy ecosystem that supports sustainable industrialisation and advances the vision of Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat 2047.

Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said Odisha’s investor-friendly policies, plug-and-play industrial infrastructure and robust manufacturing ecosystem position the state as a preferred destination for green manufacturing and high-technology equipment industries.

The conference was attended by Industries Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma, Energy Additional Chief Secretary Vishal Kumar Dev, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma, Central Electricity Authority Chairperson Ghanshyam Prasad, IEEMA President Vikram Gandotra, Director General Charu Mathur, Eastern Region Chairman Utkarsh Bansal, Vice Chairman Parag Saraf and senior government officials.
