Odisha Sees Widespread Heavy Rain; Gajapati’s Gosani Records 150.5 mm

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain drenched several parts of Odisha over the past 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reporting widespread precipitation across coastal and interior districts. Gajapati’s Gosani topped the list with a massive 150.5 mm of rainfall recorded by 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Ganjam’s Patrapur followed with 117.4 mm, while Balasore’s Jaipur received 109.8 mm, indicating a strong spell of monsoon activity across southern and northern belts of the state. Continuous rainfall since Monday night led to waterlogging in several areas, affecting road connectivity and local markets.

Several other regions also recorded notable amounts of rain — Gajapati’s Gumma (94.0 mm), Mayurbhanj’s Udala (105.0 mm), Keonjhar’s Hatadihi (71.2 mm), Balasore’s Remuna (71.0 mm), and Ganjam’s Purusottampur (100.6 mm).

According to IMD, two weather stations reported “Very Heavy Rainfall”, while 31 others reported “Heavy Rainfall.” The department attributed the spell to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which has intensified moisture flow into Odisha, triggering heavy showers in several districts.

Authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution, especially in flood-prone and hilly regions. Local administrations have been put on alert to monitor water levels and ensure timely response to any emergency caused by the persistent rain.

IMD officials said more rainfall is likely in parts of coastal and southern Odisha in the next 24 hours.
