Bhubaneswar: Runners and fitness enthusiasts gathered in Bhubaneswar on Sunday for a promotional run ahead of the upcoming OMC Puri Coastal Marathon, as organisers seek to build wider participation and enthusiasm for the event.
The run was flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Digapahandi MLA Sidhant Mohapatra, Tourism Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Balwant Singh, Sports and Youth Services Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Bhupendra Singh Poonia and Tourism Director Deepankar Mohapatra.
The Bhubaneswar event served as a curtain-raiser to the marathon, bringing together citizens from different walks of life and encouraging them to adopt running and an active lifestyle. It was also part of a wider promotional campaign aimed at taking the message of fitness to communities across Odisha and attracting runners from across the country.
The OMC Puri Coastal Marathon will give participants an opportunity to run along the coastline of Puri, combining fitness, community participation and a destination experience. The event is also envisioned as a platform to showcase Puri as a destination for sports and active tourism.
With growing interest among running and fitness communities, the marathon aims to bring participants together in a celebration of sport, wellness and the coastal spirit of Puri.
