Odisha Reviews Integrated Road Safety Dashboard to Strengthen Data-Driven Governance

Bhubaneswar: The Commerce & Transport Department, Government of Odisha, on Friday reviewed the Integrated Road Safety Dashboard, an important digital initiative aimed at strengthening coordinated and data-driven road safety governance across the State.

The review focused on the structure of the dashboard, its data integration capabilities and inter-departmental usability, with an emphasis on enabling informed decision-making, coordinated action and effective monitoring of road safety initiatives.

The dashboard has been developed by RBG Labs of IIT Madras, which had earlier conceptualised the Integrated Road Accident Database (iRAD), the national platform that supports data-led road safety interventions. The State Transport Authority (STA) guided the development of the dashboard through an extensive consultative process involving the Police, Road Owning Agencies, Health Department, National Informatics Centre (NIC) and other key stakeholders, ensuring alignment with operational needs and shared ownership across departments.

Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, Usha Padhee underlined that the true effectiveness of digital platforms lies in their adoption and regular use by all stakeholders. She noted that emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, present significant opportunities to further strengthen road safety governance and improve outcomes on the ground.

Transport Commissioner Shri Amitabh Thakur said the unified dashboard integrates datasets that were earlier scattered across multiple departments, enabling better coordination, monitoring and periodic review of road safety actions in the State.

Prof. Venkatesh Balasubramanian, Technical Consultant to the State Transport Authority from IIT Madras, explained that the application has been designed with a human-centric and intuitive interface to ensure ease of use for both officials and citizens.

The Integrated Road Safety Dashboard is expected to support systematic analysis of crash data, tracking of road safety interventions and structured review of outcomes, marking a significant step towards building an integrated, transparent and accountable road safety ecosystem in Odisha.
