Bhubaneswar: A preparatory meeting on the impending rainfall was held today under the chairmanship of Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Principal Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department. The meeting was attended by Director of Agriculture Shri Shubham Saxena, IMD Director Smt. Manorama Mohapatra, and OUAT Dean Prof. Prasannajit Mishra.
During the meeting, officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that there is no confirmed indication of cyclone formation as of now. However, with the withdrawal of the south-west monsoon, scattered rainfall is likely in some parts of Odisha, particularly in coastal districts, where thunderstorms and lightning may also occur.
Dr. Padhee urged farmers to stay alert and strictly follow the advisories issued by the IMD. He emphasized that there is no cause for panic and requested farmers to refrain from believing or spreading misleading information about weather developments.
Highlighting the favourable monsoon this year, the Principal Secretary noted that the state has received 100 percent of normal rainfall, raising expectations of a good crop yield. The Agriculture Department also advised farmers to reach out for assistance when required.
