Odisha Lays Foundation for 204 More Model Primary Schools Under Godabarisha Mishra Scheme

Bhubaneswar: Expanding its efforts to modernise government schools and improve the quality of primary education, the Odisha government on Sunday launched the construction of 204 Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary Schools across the state. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi laid the foundation stones for the projects at a programme held near Jatni in Khordha district.

The schools are being developed under the Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary School scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at transforming primary education through upgraded infrastructure, technology-enabled learning and improved academic environments for young students.

Addressing the gathering, Majhi underscored the importance of strengthening education at the foundational level. He said primary schooling shapes a child’s future and serves as the cornerstone of academic and professional success.

The Chief Minister said the government is committed to creating schools that not only impart knowledge but also nurture creativity, innovation and practical skills among students. In an increasingly competitive and technology-driven world, children need to be equipped with capabilities that go beyond classroom learning, he added.

The state had launched the scheme earlier this year from Banpur in Khordha district, the birthplace of renowned educationist Pandit Godabarisha Mishra. During the inaugural phase in January, foundation stones were laid for 118 model primary schools.

Under the larger plan, Odisha aims to establish 2,200 Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary Schools with a total investment of Rs 12,000 crore. With the latest launch, construction activities have now commenced for 322 schools across different parts of the state.

Highlighting the government’s focus on strengthening the education sector, Majhi said 26,615 teachers and non-teaching staff have been recruited over the last two years. He added that the process to appoint another 45,000 teachers is underway and is expected to be completed within the next three years.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari also spoke on the occasion. Several MPs and MLAs participated in the event through virtual mode.
