Odisha Increases Benefits for Construction Workers, Enhances Support

Bhubaneswar: In a significant boost to the welfare of construction workers, the Odisha government has announced an increase in accidental and natural death benefits. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed the new benefits during a ceremony organized by the Labour and Employees State Insurance Department at Lok Seva Bhavan.

Under the new provisions, the accidental death benefit for construction workers has been raised from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, while the natural death benefit has increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. This enhancement aims to provide better financial security and support to the families of workers who face unforeseen circumstances.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Majhi lauded the vital contributions of construction workers to the state’s infrastructure development. “You are the backbone of construction. Without you, it’s impossible to design roads, railways, buildings, factories, ports, and airports,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of their work.

Majhi underscored the government’s ongoing commitment to supporting laborers and improving their welfare. He encouraged workers to register with the Odisha Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, which has been established to provide social security and various benefits in times of need.

To facilitate easier access to benefits and services, the government has launched a new portal, ‘Mo Seva’. This platform is designed to streamline the registration process and provide assistance to workers, ensuring they can easily avail themselves of the schemes and support available.

Minister of State for Labour and Employees State Insurance, Ganesh R Singhkhuntia, reiterated the board’s objective of ensuring the welfare and social security of construction workers and their families. He highlighted the board’s role in enhancing the support system for workers and their dependents.

During the ceremony, several beneficiaries received financial assistance directly from the Chief Minister, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing the immediate needs of construction workers and their families.
